Taste of Goa – Delicious and Healthy Salmon Curry

Goan salmon curry

I like my food served with spice, needless to say a good curry on a Friday night makes me very happy. But that delicious feast from the local Indian takeaway piles on the pounds and is not exactly a budget-friendly option, so I began scouring the internet for a healthier alternative.

I came across several recipes for Goan salmon curry and decided this was the one!

  • Two fillets of salmon (chopped into pieces)
  • 1 tsp of coriander seeds
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 can of coconut milk
  • 4 cloves of garlic (or 2 tsp of garlic powder/puree)
  • 1 tsp of ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp of ground ginger (or finely chopped ginger root)
  • 1 large ripe tomato (chopped)
  • 4 chillies finely chopped (I used a mixture of red and green)
  • 2 tsp of lemon juice
  • Fresh coriander (chopped)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Heat up some olive oil in a frying pan and add the onions and chillies. Fry for a few minutes before adding the rest of the spices and the tomato
  • Pour in the coconut milk and mix together
  • Add the salmon pieces, along with the lemon juice, salt and pepper
  • Allow to cook for several minutes, stirring occasionally (until salmon cooked through)
  • Finish with a fresh coriander on top and a serving of basmati rice
