Eiffel Tower Pictures And Facts

The Eiffel Tower in Paris is without doubt an iconic building, synonymous with France’s capital city. When I visited for the first time last spring, I took so many pictures.

Bored on the train home to Liverpool one weekend, I decided to play with some of the images. Here are the colourful results, along with interesting facts about this famous sight.

How tall is the Eiffel Tower?

It is 1063 feet tall (324 metres).

Who built the Eiffel Tower?

French engineer and architect Gustave Eiffel.

Why was the Eiffel Tower built?

The Eiffel Tower was built as an entrance arch for the World Exhibition in 1889 – an event organised in celebration of the French Revolution a century earlier. It was initially designed to be a temporary exhibit, but ended up becoming a permanent landmark.

Other facts about the Eiffel Tower…

There is an Eiffel Tower restaurant on the second floor called Le Jules Verne, boasting spectacular views.

You can climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower, but there are likely to be large queues all of the way up and on the way back down again.

A picturesque approach towards the Eiffel Tower is along the lush gardens of Parc du Champ de Mars.

The tower is made out of wrought iron and is the tallest building in Paris.

Con artist Victor Lustig sold the Eiffel Tower for scrap metal two times, by posing as a government officer in the 1920s.

After all of these doctored photographs of the Eiffel Tower, here is an ordinary one. To be honest, I much prefer the pink sky, even if it is fabricated…
