Travel Planning Procrastination

It has just hit me… in a couple of months I will be leaving blighty behind and getting on a flight to Canada. Where has the first quarter of 2012 gone? This realisation has highlighted the fact that there is a lot I need to sort out before leaving. The problem is, I am a terrible travel planning procrastinator.

Actually, I am a bit of procrastinator full-stop.

It is not at crisis point. I’ve sorted out most of the big things. The flights are booked, my savings are on track, travel credit card applied for, working holiday visa being processed.

However I have not yet sorted out my travel insurance and need to step up my Ebay selling to get rid of a flat full of stuff.

I have not booked my hostel for my arrival in Vancouver.

My itinerary is at this point practically non-existent.

Basically I need to get a move on to avoid a stressful last minute rush. The travel insurance should definitely be a priority. I am thinking of going with World Nomads as they seem to offer good comprehensive cover.

But I am still always anxious that there is a better deal out there which I am missing. Basically I stall every time I get close to getting things done.

A possible solution would be to make a list and just plough through it.

Regarding my Ebay selling, it would make things easier to write down everything I have to sell and plan when to put the listings up on the website.

I want to get all of the practical planning out of the way so that I can put all of my energy into being excited.

Maybe lists are the way to go….

How do you get yourself into gear for travel planning? Any fellow procrastinators out there?

Lists work best for me. I enjoy the planning process though so I don’t often procrastinate. Wish I had a trip to plan right now!

Hi Darlene, I’m definitely going to make a list…at the weekend (see, procrastinating again!) :-) I love planning, it’s all of the nitty gritty bits that take time and effort that I tend to avoid such as looking through the details of travel insurance policies and filling in the details for items to sell on Ebay. I’m just being lazy and need to get into gear.

I use lists, couldn’t function without my lists! Lists and deadlines without a due date I procrastinate a lot.

Glad I’m not the only one :-) I’m procrastinating about making lists now…
