Surf’s Up at Great Western Beach, Newquay: Travel Snapshot

As dusk slowly creeps in, shadows are cast over this sunny August day. The air cools and everything has quietened down a notch.  But in Newquay, the surfing capital of the UK, the surf is still up.  Great Western Beach is one of several beaches in this town on England’s Cornish coast.  Surfers can be seen bobbing up and down, waiting patiently for the right wave. The beach itself is empty aside from one stark figure, who is the only spectator in the stalls at this show. But many more are looking down from above, mainly through the windows of the Great Western Hotel which has a pub/restaurant overlooking this picturesque cove.
