Free entertainment in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is all about frivolous fun and entertainment. And some of this entertainment is completely free. Aside from the benefits of free drinks in the casinos (even though, chances are, you are losing most of your money gambling), there are a number of free shows that can be enjoyed.

My favourite is the Show in the Sky at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. This hotel is located just off the Las Vegas Strip, but is well worth a visit purely for its fantastic entertainment.

One of the Rio Carnival inspired floats in the Show in the Sky.

We took a quick taxi ride here for an afternoon and left covered in bright coloured Rio beads.

In the Masquerade Village section of the hotel, there are regular free Brazilian Carnival themed performances. The Show in the Sky sees a flurry of floats intermittently circling the ceiling. There are different ones working their way around on a rail – some themed on the Rio Carnival, others on the Mardi Gras.

As the floats come round, beads are thrown into the audience. By the end of the day, these plastic beads become gold and the audience are like paupers begging for pennies.

Circus performers also weave their way between the slot machines to keep the visitors entertained.

Here are a few of the best free shows that can be viewed by simply strolling down the Las Vegas Strip during the evening:

The Mirage Volcano

The Mirage Volcano

Every night outside the Mirage Hotel in the centre of the Las Vegas Strip, a volcano regularly erupts with a spectacular rumbling show of fiery colour. It gradually bubbles up before spitting out big bursts of fire.

Treasure Island Pirate Show

The Sirens of TI present a thrilling theatrical show outside Treasure Island at regular intervals each night. Set on a pirate ship, this is a full-on performance which features music and dialogue along with fireworks and acrobatic stunts.

The Fountains of Bellagio

The Fountains of Bellagio

Beautiful fountains moving to music in front of the Bellagio Hotel is one of the best free activities to fit into a Las Vegas itinerary. And, to be honest, you will probably just happen to be walking past when one of the regular nightly shows is underway.

Just spent a week in Vegas and my friends and I had a blast. Of course being a group of guys we spent most of our time at the clubs and and drinking. When my wife and I went the shows were the top choices. Loved viewing the pirate show and the fountains.

Hi Thomas, cheers for the comment. I’m not surprised you and your friends had so much fun, it’s the most fun place I have ever visited. Think it will be a long time before I can afford to get there again. But made the most of it while I was there!
