Five things I did in Las Vegas

There is so much to do in Las Vegas, besides gambling. Here are five things I did…

Had an ice cream at the Bellagio Hotel

Unfortunately, my budget couldn’t stretch to actually staying in the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, but I could just about afford to indulge in an ice cream from there. Like everything about this place, it was pure, delicious luxury!
At night, there are regular fountain shows outside the hotel, which are definitely worth seeing. The Fountains of Bellagio, as they are aptly named, are beautifully lit up and dance around in time to music, wowing the crowds. I loved it.

Took a coach trip to the Grand Canyon in Arizona

It seemed ridiculous not to drop in and give these famous red rocks a visit while I was in this part of the world – be it a fleeting one. I really enjoyed the day, even though most of it was spent on the coach getting there and back.
But I just felt absolutely amazed to have been there even for a few hours. I could not believe how close to the edge you could actually walk – wow! It was like looking out at another planet. If you can afford it, take the helicopter ride rather than the coach.

Stayed at the Excalibur Hotel and Casino

This hotel was chosen because of its location – right in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.
Not surprisingly from the name, it has a King Arthur and Camelot theme.
Some of the best hotels on the strip such as the MGM Grand and Luxor are only a stone throw away. But this, we found on booking, was the cheapest of the best bunch.
I really enjoyed staying in this hotel. It had a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a brilliant casino (even though I’m rubbish at gambling and never win!)

Went to see a show – Thunder From Down Under to be exact

Usually the thought of muscled, oiled men gyrating around in shiny thongs is just not appealing to me. I like hairy, normal-looking men! But my friend, who had seen Thunder From Down Under on a previous trip was adamant. And I thought it would be a laugh. Turned out it was. This group of Aussies certainly know how to rev up a crowd and give a good show. The crowd mainly consisted of hen parties (or bachelorette parties as they’re called in America). The show is based at the Excalibur Hotel.

Enjoyed the nightlife

There are so many clubs and bars to choose from – the list is endless. We found the best place for nightlife was the MGM Grand, which has the Studio 54 nightclub.
